Abstract

A theoretical model for oxygen transport in skeletal muscle was studied. The oxygen consumption rate of any tissue was limited by the rate at which oxygen could be delivered to the tissue. The predicted maximal oxygen consumption rates were comparable in magnitude to experimentally observed oxygen consumption.
