Abstract

Two elderly fishermen demonstrate that despite the popularity of freshwater fishing as a recreation for older patients, few devotees or their physicians realize the potential danger of wound infection from Aeromonas hydrophila. Cellulitis and myonecrosis may be devastating, and any freshwater injury should be managed vigorously with ciprofloxacin and wound debridement. Physicians should teach their patients to antiseptically clean and dress freshwater injuries to prevent infection.
