Animal adhesion models

Abstract

Assessment of postoperative adhesion development is severely limited by the lack of hematologic or radiologic parameters endpoints, thus necessitating a re-operative procedure. An alternative, and a prerequisite for devices or equipment considered for reduction of adhesions, is the use of animal models. While providing inferences as to efficacy in humans, interpretation of the results from animal models must be viewed in the context of advantages, disadvantages, and limitations of these studies.
