Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of formononetin sodium on thrombus formation and its mechanism. Methods: The inhibitory action of formononetin sodium on the thrombus formation was investigated by the model of ferric chloride-induced carotid artery thrombosis in rats. The antithrombotic mechanism was investigated by platelet aggregation and coagulation tests. Results: Formononetin sodium at high and middle dose could inhibit arterial thrombus formation, ADP, and thrombin-induced platelet aggregation in rats, while prolong bleeding time and APTT in mice (P<0.01). Conclusion: Formononetin sodium has anti-thrombosis effect, and its mechanism may correlate with inhibition of ADP, thrombin-induced platelet aggregation and reduction of the function of endogenous coagulation pathway.
