Abstract

Fungal etiology as a cause of pneumonia should be considered in children and adolescents who may be part of a family or group cluster of pneumonia. Fungi should also be considered and appropriate diagnostic studies ordered in those patients who have specific factors (such as travel, recreational, or occupational exposure) for development of infections caused by fungi, such as Blastomyces, Coccidioides, or Histoplasma.
