Abstract

The special issue of Theoretical Computer Science contains a report on Colloquium on Structure, Information, Communication, and Complexity (SIROCCO). SIROCCO covers topics such as distributed algorithms, compact data structures, information dissemination, informative labeling schemes, combinatorial optimization, and others. The issue contains nine papers that are based on the original research results published in the SIROCCO 2008 proceedings as extended abstracts. SIROCCO has emerged as a high-quality, competitive, and truly international research conference. The colloquium has become a widely recognized forum, bringing together researchers interested in the fundamental principles underlying the interplay between local structural knowledge and global communication and computation complexity.
