Abstract

Since the introduction of laparoscopy, the diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis have been dramatically altered. Laparoscopy may be utilized to confirm the presence of endometriosis and to excise or ablate endometriotic lesions, often with reduced morbidity and comparable efficacy to laparotomy. Destruction of endometriotic lesions, restoration of normal anatomy, delay of disease progression, and symptomatic relief are the primary goals in the treatment of endometriosis.
