Abstract

1. The use of psychotropic medications to control unacceptable or maladaptive behaviors should be an integral part of the client's active treatment plan developed by the interdisciplinary team. 2. Ideally, psychotropic medication is used for behavioral management only after less restrictive programmatic alternatives have been exhausted, and then only in conjunction with a behaviorally based training program. 3. Attitudes and beliefs of individual team members will contribute to the success or failure of the interdisciplinary team process.
