A biomechanical approach to evaluating and treating lower leg dysfunction

Abstract

Lower leg overuse injuries are common in all athletes and require sports-medicine practitioners to design and implement rehabilitation programs that address both physical symptoms and causative factors. This article describes applications of biomechanical principles that can facilitate decision making in cases of chronic lower leg dysfunction. The article provides a framework with which to systematically identify biomechanical influences, correlate them to lower leg dysfunction, and design the most effective treatment intervention.
